Personally, I am not interested in G & N'sgluejeans. But I do like the stylists choice for using a head dress made of plastic spoons. Now that is brilliant. And then there is G & N's giant gray head wrap. I love this kind of crazy!!

I recently met Lily Zenner at a jewelry shop in Portland, Oregon. She just opened her etsy shop. I suggest you go see what she has listed. Having seen her work myself, I can say it's lovely.
It seems to me that there is a trend toward "ethical" diamonds, gems, silver, and gold which focuses on issues of mining natural resources, while turning away from the reality of chemicals and toxic processes in the studio. It seems as if jewelers who use metals and gems don't really want to change their ways if it means they will need to find new materials to express their art. Also, people continue to see jewelry as a measure of their personal value and status.
I question the term, eco friendly for any jewelry made with metals and gems in a jewelers studio, using hot processes.
Is it beautiful if its creation causes so much harm?
I read in Time magazine that Payal Sampat said the mining required to make one 18k gold ring (.33 ounces) results in an average of 20 tons of mine waste. (for details, click here.)
"Once its extracted, the mine ore is crushed, piled into heaps, and sprayed with cyanide to separate out the gold. Years later, the abandoned waste piles can still release acid and toxic heavy metals into streams, rivers, and groundwater." world watch institute
